Belton's top autumn 50 things activities

Children playing with leaves in autumn

There’s lots of the National Trust 50 things to do before you’re 11¾ activities to tick off on your next visit to Belton. 33 in fact!

Pick up a copy of the #50things booklet from the Discovery Centre or Visitor Reception Building to keep track of how many activities you complete.

Here are our top five #50things activities to try out this autumn:

1. Play conkers:

Belton’s parkland has lots of big horse chestnut trees, so bring some string a playing partner and smash away. To choose a killer conker, put some conkers in a bucket of water; all those that sink to the bottom are the best in battle (#10).

2. Make a trail with sticks:

Gather up lots of sticks and lay them on the ground in the shape of arrows. Then find someone to follow your trail to the end! Join us for Belton’s weekly #50things challenges throughout the school holidays as the play team challenge you to make a trail with sticks (#12).

3. Hold a scary beast:

Would you hold a spider? How about a frog? A woodlouse? Different creatures can seem scary for lots of different reasons, and while some people are scared, others won't be. Whatever seems scary to you now, once you've held it, you'll be feeling incredibly brave. (#30).

4. Catch a falling leaf:

That magical moment in autumn where a golden leaf comes away from the tree and floats down to the ground - can you catch it as it falls? (#33).

5. Build a raft:

Building a raft is a big challenge, but you can definitely do it! It doesn't have to be a big raft though, it can be small-scale to allow you to make changes and test out your designs on the River Witham. Check out our events feed to have a go building a raft with Belton’s play team (#43).
