Volunteer at Birling Gap and the Seven Sisters
We’re always on the lookout for like-minded people to join our team and help us to run and manage this unique coastal site. We have many volunteering opportunities available all year round so find out more about how you could make a difference and support our work. Birling Gap and the Seven Sisters is a well-used and much-loved site by locals and visitors alike. It is an area rich in cultural and social history with amazing views and wonderful wildlife. We are always grateful to receive donations towards our countryside conservation work. We recently received a very generous gift from the North Sussex National Trust Association. This enabled us to buy much need new tools for our volunteers which are essential for us to carry out our practical habitat tasks. We would like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to the Association for their support and help.
Countryside and conservation
From coppicing hazel at our woodland in Ashcombe Bottom to fencing work at Frog Firle Farm, there’s always something to do on our countryside sites across the South Downs. If you have a few hours to spare each month and enjoy working outside then why not join us as an outdoor volunteer?
Do you love chatting to people and sharing your love of the countryside? If so why not join our visitor centre team welcoming visitors, answering questions and helping them enjoy this beautiful coastal spot? Whether you have 4 hours a month or several days a week to spare you can help support our work in the South Downs by volunteering in the visitor centre.
The shop at Birling Gap is stocked to the brim with local goods and specialities and is a great place to browse for gifts or find a souvenir. If you’re interested in chatting to visitors, helping them find that special item and ensuring that the shop continues to look amazing, then please contact us.
Membership and recruiting
Membership is extremely important in funding the vital work we do here. As a volunteer membership recruiter you’ll provide a warm, friendly welcome to all visitors and answer questions about the property and the wider Trust.
There’s now a beautiful garden at Birling Gap. It shows some of the different habitats that can be found locally, including vegetated shingle, maritime grassland and chalk heath. It requires a lot of upkeep so if you think you’d like to help, let us know.
Long term volunteer
If you’re looking for a career in countryside and conservation, why not join us as a long-term volunteer? We offer you the opportunity to work across some beautiful Sussex downland and coastal sites and learn new skills every day. We’ll also help you gain invaluable experience with an enthusiastic and professional team.
Children come here to learn about all sorts of things - from landscape, geology, geography and the science of the natural world. This really means they get to run around looking in ponds, ditches and rock pools, having fun and learning to love nature. To find out how you could help on these fun-filled days please contact us.
