Rag rugging workshops at Birmingham Backs to Backs

Hands having a go at rag rugging

Knitting, crocheting, sewing and other crafts are at the height of fashion but have you considered rag rugging? Join one of our workshops and become an expert.

What is a rag rug?

Rag rugs were an essential feature of back to back homes.

A spare piece of old sack material and some bits of old cloth were reused and turned into rag rugs, mats, seat covers and more.

Our workshops

In these workshops on Saturday 22 July and Saturday 23 September, you'll learn how to make a rag rug with our Craft Specialists, who will equip you with the skills and materials you need.

You'll also be able to take in the atmospheric setting of the Back to Backs while you create your masterpiece.

At the end the session, you'll leave with a purpose-made tool and the beginnings of your first rag rug project to finish at home.
