Discover Blickling Estate's famous apples and pumpkins

Join us in the walled garden this autumn and see dazzling displays of autumn colour, as well as an abundance of seasonal produce, including apples, pears, pumpkins and squashes.

A 1930s kitchen garden

Experience Blickling's walled garden in a blaze of golden colour this autumn. For four centuries, Blickling’s walled garden supplied enough produce to feed the many families who lived and worked on the five thousand acre estate.  However despite falling into disrepair during the twentieth century, work began in November 2014 to restore the walled garden to its former glory.

The five-year restoration project of the 1930s kitchen garden has been funded by donations from across the estate, with particular thanks to a generous portion from Blickling's second-hand bookshop.

Colourful displays

Find a wide variety of apples and pears in Blickling's orchard and walled garden. Discover the estate's heritage apples and learn more about a special variety that has been re-introduced from the diary of a nineteenth century Blickling gardener by joining us for our apple weekend on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 October.

Pumpkins and squashes of all shapes and sizes are a fascinating sight to behold. Spot a wide variety of colours including, orange, yellow, green and white, and ask our gardeners any day of the week for green-fingered tips. You will also see more unusual additions such as ghost pumpkins and tromboncinos.

Seasonal treats

We’re proud that in 2018 our visitors can now reap the rewards of the kitchen garden’s restoration. With fruit, vegetables and herbs growing in abundance, visitors can not only explore the walled garden in full splendour, but also enjoy eating much of its produce in our cafés.
