Seize the last of the summer

The view across the lake to the house in autumn

As summer fades into autumn, we're making the most of the last summer sun and welcoming in the season of mellow fruitfulness with a celebration of apples and pumpkins. Take a look at what we'll be doing at Blickling over autumn.

Autumn festival

We're celebrating apples and pumpkins throughout September and in to October.  Throughout the season you'll be able to see how your support is transforming the walled garden with an amazing display of pumpkins.  Help us harvest our fruit and veg or head to the cafe for a taste of Blickling produce with our autumn themed food.

Help yourself to an apple in the second-hand bookshop as you browse for a good read.

The autumn festival will culminate on 19 October as we continue our Indian theme and celebrate Diwali with lit pumpkins in the walled garden.

Conservation in action

Did you know that your membership is helping to look after Blickling’s library, which contains incomparably the finest book collection in the National Trust?  Our work here includes protecting and conserving these rare and ancient tomes, and in September you’ll be able to see some of that conservation work first hand.

We'll be here to answer your questions about why the book collection is so important and show you the techniques our experts are using behind the scenes to conserve these precious items.

The pop-up studio will run from 11 - 29 September.

Apple weekend | 30 September - 1 October

Come and help celebrate our apple harvest.  Discover the heritage apple varieties we're re- introducing from the diary of a 19th century Blickling gardener.  Try a sample of our freshly pressed apple juice, buy produce to enjoy at home, learn with a pop up talk from our garden team on what the walled garden project has been about.  Don't miss the wonderful display of pumpkins growing in our walled garden.

The 1930s cooks will be in the kitchen cooking up apple treats for Lord Lothian, and you may even get a taster. Head to the cafe for seasonal dishes, using produce from the walled garden.

Autumn walks

The trees will start to turn towards the end of September, providing a stunning display of colour until early November.  Walk around the lake for perfect reflections of the colours in the water.

The estate walk of 4.5 miles takes in all the best bits of Blickling's ancient woodland with beautiful autumnal colours throughout the parkland.

" The iconic view of Blickling Hall reflected in a calm lake surrounded by trees in all shades of earthy autumn tones is hard to resist, but there are so many great views across the estate you could easily lose days exploring."
