A Knight's Peril adventure game at Bodiam Castle

An echo horn from A Knight's Peril adventure at Bodiam Castle

A first for the National Trust, Bodiam Castle has a new interactive audio adventure game for families to try. Work as a team and see if you can detect who has plans to murder Sir Edward, the castle's founder.

A slice of medieval times

‘A Knight’s Peril’, a new permanent interactive audio adventure is your key to unlocking the medieval world of Bodiam castle as seen through the eyes of Sir Edward Dallingridge, builder of Bodiam, his family and household in the 14th century.

Although fictional, the story alludes to actual events which took place at the time such as the Hundred Year War and Peasants Revolt. With a mix of both real and imaginary characters informed by historical research, the story paints enough of a picture of medieval life for you to be able to transport yourself back in time.

Medieval sleuths at the ready

Armed with only an echo horn (shaped like a medieval hunting horn which allows you to hear echoes from the past) and a map, you begin your adventure by meeting Kate, the daughter of Sir Edward, who asks for your help in solving which of four potential characters is planning to assassinate her father at that evening’s feast.

Next you head off across the bridge and in to the castle itself. Like medieval sleuths, you’ll be invited to hunt down seals (shaped like the medieval wheel of fortune) growing out of the castle walls, to uncover more of the deadly story and try and stop the assassin before it’s too late. Your decisions directly influence the story and determine which part of the castle you visit.

A Knight’s Peril is an exciting new techological development and a first for the Trust.  Echo horns are available from Castle Cottage daily and are included in your ticket price. For more information call 01580 830196.
