Mill Volunteer - Are you interested in this role?

Role summary If only these walls could talk! That’s why our Mill Volunteers make such a difference. They’re passionate about stories, history and people, and love making visitors feel at home. Help us to share the ways we’re developing the mill.
What's involved?  Welcoming every visitor - your welcome, smile and enthusiasm will be key to the success of this role
Learning more about Bourne Mill, so you can share all that’s special - indoors and out
Helping visitors to discover more, making suggestions so they can enjoy their day, their way
Be aware of opening arrangements at nearby National Trust properties and other information about the locality, or be able to direct to a source of information
Helping if people ask, and thinking about the needs of all visitors, including disabled people and families
Using your knowledge or skills, for example giving talks or helping with children’s activities
When appropriate fundraising by explaining how visitors can support specific conservation projects, for example by buying raffle tickets
Helping visitors understand why we need to take care of special places
Getting to know health and safety and evacuation procedures
This role will suit you if you are... Full of enthusiasm, hoping to inspire visitors of all ages
Someone who loves being around people
Interested in Bourne Mill and Colchester – you don’t need to know all the history, but as a Mill Volunteer you’ll pick up lots of facts and figures
Available at least once a fortnight
By getting involved you could Get to know Bourne Mill by heart and learn its secrets
Use your people skills to welcome and inspire visitors
Be part of a varied and enthusiastic team and make new friends
Spend time in a beautiful location jam-packed with history
