Natural play area

On Brownsea Island we have been carrying out a ten year conservation management programme. This has involved felling old pine trees to make way for new saplings that will keep a constant supply of pine cones available for our population of native red squirrels.

Our ranger team began work four years ago, using some of these trees to create a magical play area for children that completely blends in with the landscape.  Visitors are constantly suprised when they come across this expanse of simple but fun and at times challenging natural play structures.

With a den building area, pine cone shy, performance stage and even some crocodiles, there is plenty to keep children (and adults) entertained.
