Scout centre of excellence for nature and the environment (SCENE)

Aerial view of Brownsea Island

We are excited to have been accredited as the UK's first Scout centre of excellence for nature and the environment (SCENE).

SCENES is part of the World Scout Environment Programme and is an important place to showcase what Scouting is doing for nature and the environment.

Brownsea Island becomes the first SCENE in the UK

We are proud to now be a member of the World Scout Foundation and to have been recognised for our commitment to protect the environment and to promote environmental understanding.

What is SCENES?

SCENES was developed during the 1990’s as an initiative of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM). Scout centres around the world developed environmental management practices and education programmes and became formally recognised as SCENES and National Trust Brownsea Island is now the first site to be recognised in the UK.

How can my group get involved?

At the outdoor centre we run a programme of led and self-led activities. Many of them have an environmental focus and can help your group to work towards the World Scout Environment badge. We are currently working on information to help visiting groups to achieve this badge and more information on our activities can be found on the learning page.
