Devon Art Pop presents: The World Encompassed
This summer, a collection of paintings, photos, sculptures and textiles will be on display at the Abbey, all celebrating Drake's circumnavigation of the globe.
The pieces, all produced by talented local artists, tell the story of Sir Francis Drake's circumnavigation and reflect the theme of the sea.
There are a mixture of exhibits including paintings, photographs and some small interactive pieces like 'Drake's diary', which can be picked up and looked at.
Through the art, you'll learn more about the incredible voyage and the lives of the sailors - for instance, there's a waistcoat embroidered with some of the animals and plants recorded by Francis Fletcher, the chaplain whose notes were turned into the text 'The World Encompassed'.
All pieces exhibited around the property by Devon Art Pop are for sale and sit alongside existing parts of Buckland Abbey’s historic collection.
