Fun for all the family at Buckland

From wandering around Buckland’s four estate walks to zipping across the Higher Paddock zip-wire, and from trying on a Tudor outfit to hunting medieval beasties, there are lots of things for all the family to do throughout the school break.

Egg-stra time to complete this year’s Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt

There’s still time to complete this year’s Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt at Buckland Abbey. Starting from Visitor Welcome, pick up your hunt map and follow in the footsteps of Sir Francis Drake as you circumnavigate the estate in search of your chocolate reward. Runs daily until 10 April, normal admission plus £2 per person (includes chocolate reward while stocks last).

Transform yourself into a Tudor

Step into Buckland’s time machine and transform yourself into a Tudor by trying on an authentic get-up in the Abbey. All of the costumes have been made by the volunteers who form the abbey’s Costume Group.

Medieval beast hunt

Hidden around the yellow and blue estate walks, sixteen medieval beasties are waiting to be discovered. Find them all in one day or across multiple visits to produce your very own medieval book of bestiaries. Will you march past the moldiwarpe, run past the rana and hunt down the herinacius? The medieval beast hunt is available daily, pick up your booklet from Visitor Welcome at the start of your visit. Normal admission plus £1 per booklet.

Higher Paddock play area

Visit the Higher Paddock play area which is at the beginning of the red and blue walks, and you'll discover balance beams, great places to build a secret den and even a zip wire. This fantastic area has just had more natural play equipment installed in it by the Ranger team, who worked with local primary school children to design its layout. Suitable for grown ups too.

Adventure into the wild garden

Just below the Cider House garden, step into the wild garden and seek out the woodland carvings hiding amongst the undergrowth. Foxes, herons and toadstools await.
