Here comes the summer

Explore the Buckland Abbey estate

Whatever the weather, a day full of family fun awaits at Buckland Abbey. Whether you head out on an estate trail, dress up like a Tudor or create a special souvenir at a craft workshop, there's plenty to enjoy all summer long.

Richard Grenville exhibition  - Family Trail

Pick up your trail sheet from Visitor Welcome and head out on an adventure and learn all about life on the high seas.

Pop into the Abbey and visit the exhibition all about another famous Tudor sailor called Richard Grenvile. Grenville like Drake travelled to East Coast America and many of the place names in America have been named after Devon towns and villages because of explorers like Grenville.

Discover what happened when Grenville met many of the Native Americans and how places in America were colonised.

Summer of Sport

Head outdoors and complete all the 50 things activities around the estate and gardens and claim your Summer of Sport medal from Visitor Welcome.

Head to the barn and take part in some of the games such as skittles or archery on weekends.

Walks and picnics

Pack up a picnic basket and head out on one of the estate walks for a wild picnic. We have some excellent spots to enjoy some sunshine and it is a great place for outdoor games.

Getting crafty

There are lots of fantastic workshops and activities planned for the summer holidays at Buckland this year. Follow the link below for updates on dates, times and prices.

Join Naturemake as you create fantastic art creations from natural materials. Or join Annie in the Ox Yard and make a Summer inspired fused glass wall hanging or coaster to take home.

Adventures in the outdoors

Located on the edge of Great North Wood, a 15 minute stroll along the red and blue estate walk takes you to the Higher Paddock play area where you can discover balance beams and places to build a secret den and more.

The play area features lots of natural play equipment installed by our Ranger team, who worked with local primary school children to design its layout.
