Five Centuries of Christmas at Canons Ashby
Enjoy the warmth and colour of five centuries of festive traditions throughout the house, sounds of celebrations in the grounds or a sweet and tasty treat in the tea room or shop.
Immerse yourself in 500 years of Christmas traditions between 9 and 17 December, 11-3pm (last admission to the house at 2.30pm). Explore the house whilst you travel through time, from Tudor grandeur to 20th century indulgences.
Help decorate our giant tree while keeping warm by the glowing fire in the Great Hall, discover the origins of our best-loved festive habits and see what life was like without Christmas in Puritan England. Admire the opulence of the dining table groaning under the weight of a Georgian feast or relive your childhood with the best of 20th century fun. Kids can pick up a present from our Christmas lucky dip bag for £2 a pop, or get some festive facepaint on 16-17 December for £2-£3 per face.
If you visit on one of the weekends you may even meet Father Christmas this year as he checks that everything is in order in time for the big day.
Though the beds aren't in bloom, there are plenty of reasons to get out in to the garden. Enjoy the sharp clear lines of the formal garden and baroque vistas through the leafless trees whilst getting some fresh air on a crisp winter’s day.
Pick up a Silver Bells trail and find ways to make music throughout the spinny and paddock. Christmas used to be full of home-made music, so pick up a bell or a beater and play your heart out.
