Canons Ashby this May half-term
Bring the family to Canons Ashby this half term and get exploring. The weather is getting warmer so take advantage of the season to stretch your legs and have fun outdoors.
Our gardens are full of spring colour, so why not have a wander? Before you start pick up a kids garden trail from the Coach House. If you'd like to know more about the plants, have a chat to one of our gardeners who'll be happy to help. For some family fun there's our lawn games croquet and quoits. Or the green court behind the topiary is a great place for a game of hide-and-seek.
If you're feeling energetic try our parkland walk to the lake. Little adventurers can collect a bug hunt sheet from the Coach House and see what creepy crawlies they can find. Bug hunting is one of our 50 things to do before your're 11¾, so pick up a scrapbook and start earning stickers today. Look up at the trees to find our hanging bugs and beetles,or have a close look at ground level to find some real life ones.
You'll find sheep and cows in the parkland at the moment and they're fun to watch - especially the lambs. But please be careful and avoid getting too close. If your dog's enjoying the day out with you, please keep them on a short lead. If you'd like to know more about the Parkland's history, you may also like to try our Millennium Mile walk.
There are picnic benches, a small wild play patch and a spinney of trees to explore. Our chickens Spenser and his ladies, have returned after a brief holiday. You can normally see them scratching and clucking around the paddock or nearby. They're fun to watch, but our food is not good for them and they may get a bit scared if you try to stroke them. So please help us keep them relaxed and healthy by not touching or feeding them.
Some items from the house have gone missing! Join our family trail "Stolen" and see if you can help recover our items as you explore the house. Ask for your free family trail from the Coach House when you arrive. A new feature this year is the story of Alice Dryden, daughter of Sir Henry. An inspirational women ahead of her time.
