The Stables Bookshop is located in the Grand Yard at Castle Coole. As the name suggests, the bookshop was formerly a stable which has been transformed into a bright and roomy bookshop, filled with a whole range of books which have been kindly donated to the National Trust by local people, schools and businesses.
The bookshop is run by a dedicated team of volunteers who have been involved right from the planning stage, to putting the shelves in place, sorting through donated books, and now the day to day running of the shop.
The bookshop regularly goes through updates and benefits from some fantastic donations, ranging from classical poetry, to murder mysteries, to childrens books. There are often a few sought after older books, as well as research books on history, languages and business.
The bookshop also gets into the swing of things during the annual Beckett Festival, celebrating Beckett and his contemporaries.
Make sure to stop in at the bookshop on your visit to Castle Coole and pick up a bargain!
How you can help
If you're clearing out the bookshelves at home and have any books you would like to donate to the National Trust at Castle Coole, we welcome any donations to the bookshop. It will be open throughout normal opening hours during the season, and books can be dropped off directly to the bookshop in the Grand Yard.
All proceeds raised from the sale of books are put directly back into the conservation work carried out at Castle Coole, and helps to further develop this special place for the future.
Call Castle Coole on 028 6632 2690 if you're not sure if the bookshop is open to drop off any books.
