Cherryburn has been put to bed as we give the site a deep clean and let it rest from the busy summer season
What’s going on behind the scenes?
Now the site is closed, we can carry out some essential maintenance and conservation tasks. We’ll also put the collection in a temperature-regulated room to protect and help preserve the items before they’re put out on show again next February.
When does Cherryburn reopen?
Cherryburn reopens on Saturday 10 February. Visit us next year to help us celebrate the 200 year anniversary of the publication of Bewick’s fables, and we’ll have plenty of related events and activities.
Plus, our resident donkeys Paddy and Bethany will return in March, just in time for Easter holiday fun!
Thomas Bewick was ahead of his time. Using Box Wood and patiently carving intricately detailed pictures into the blocks of wood, he created masterpieces of all shapes and sizes. Now, you can have your very own. The National Trust doesn't use his original blocks very often, however we do love to celebrate his work. If you would like to own a piece of Bewick's art too, then take a look at what's on offer
