Captain Geoffrey's Woodland Walk
Welcome to Dudmaston Estate, situated in the tranquil landscape of South Shropshire. This walk will take you through an historic working estate which dates back to Norman times. Throughout this time it has, and continues to be, a working estate and a family home.

Leave the North end of the car park through the pedestrian gate behind the NT information board. Follow the riverside path until you reach the large bridge
Pass under the bridge and go diagonally right towards the gate. Enter the woods and climb for approx. 30 metres then take the level track on the left. Follow this track for approx. 3/4 mile. The path climbs steeply and you come to a junction. Turn left towards another NT information board. At this point the red and blue trails separate.
Take the red trail. Head diagonally left and descend to Mill Pool before climbing up the side of Big Pool Dam. Go through the first gate then head diagonally left towards the kissing gate. Go through the gate and head diagonally left again. On the ridge you will find a track, turn right and head towards Lodge Farm.
At the farm turn right and walk up the drive towards the main road. Just before the main road turn right then left to use the dog leg in the path. This makes it safer to cross the main road as vision is restricted and the traffic is moving quickly.
Cross the main road and head into the woods following the path onto the main track. Walking into the woods from the main road you will soon see a track to the right descending gently. Follow this, it will turn left and then again to the right to go down through some large conifers. As the track levels off turn right onto a wider, grassy track known as the Avenue.
After a few yards, turn left and join the poolside walk. After approx. 3/4 mile you will come to a gate and a hard stone track. Turn right and follow this track up to the lane. At the lane turn right and walk to the Old Sawmill car park.
Walk down the edge of the car park on the bridle path until you reach Old Hall. As the track bends to the left, go through the field gate on your right. Then turn left to follow the garden fence onto the drive and up the lane. Turn right towards Quatt. At the main road, cross over and turn left to Quatt Farm Shop
Look for the kissing gate at the end of Quatt Farm Shop forecourt. Go through the gate and you will pick up the blue and red trail posts. Follow these along the public footpath for approx. 1 1/2 miles, you will cross several field boundaries. Once you are back on the lane, turn right and follow it down. This will bring you back to Hampton Loade car park.
