  • Free coach parking space for pre-booked groups
  • Free entry for the driver on the day of your group visit
  • Mobility scooters and manual wheelchairs are available to book at no extra cost, subject to availability.

Self-guided education visits

Inspire young people to love nature and develop a deep love for the history and heritage in their communities with a self-guided education visit to Dunham Massey.

Pre-book a self-guided education visit to explore, discover and be inspired by its wildlife, nature and history. On confirmation of your booking, we’ll send you a guide to Dunham with recommended activities for your visit including:

Woodland crafts

This series of creative and physical activities encourages your group to create with nature. Have a go at wild art, set up a nature obstacle course or make a minibeast den in the North Park.

Trees

Dunham Massey is a Site of Special Scientific Interest because of the amazing flora and fauna that lives here – trees are essential to this biodiverse habitat. Identify leaves and fruits, look at the wildlife sustained by living and dead trees, understand the symbolism and power of trees and discuss how they can help us look after the natural environment.

Outdoor activities

Build confidence, curiosity and communication and explore the interconnectedness of nature through an exciting activity programme. Notice nature, test your map skills and play your part in protecting special places on your visit to Dunham Massey.

Who are our self-guided visits for?

These recommended activities are designed to offer school staff the flexibility and opportunity to curate your own experiences. Choose from and build upon the activities to suit your group's learning journey.

The activities are most suitable for Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils, however all school groups and ages are welcome.

Education Group Membership (EGM)

Schools can benefit from an Educational Group Membership, which is an annual membership giving free access to the whole school group at National Trust places.

Who is eligible for free entry?

Registered tourist board guides (on production of a valid badge), coach drivers and tour leaders escorting groups of 15 or more. National Trust members also receive free entry, so it is at your discretion whether to refund the entrance fee to members if you have included it in your package – this is not refunded by the National Trust.

Members must bring their current membership cards with them to avoid paying the full group rate. If any of your group would like to join the National Trust please direct them to our Membership page or call 0344 800 1895.

Free familiarisation visits for group leaders

If you're planning a group visit you can request our free Travel Trade Pass and you and a friend or colleague will gain free entry to over 300 of our places throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland for 12 months. There’s nothing quite like seeing or experiencing somewhere for yourself to help you plan a successful visit. To receive your pass, call 0344 800 2329 or email us at NTTravelTrade@capita.co.uk.

Get in touch about bringing a group or school group to Dunham Massey

All group visits and self-led education visits must be booked in advance. We welcome groups on most days, but we can’t take bookings on Sundays, Bank Holiday weekends and event weekends.

To check availability for your chosen date and time and to book, email us on dunhamgroupbookings@nationaltrust.org.uk. We’ll then send you a booking form to fill out and return at your earliest convenience.
