Expert in arboriculture wanted at Dyffryn Gardens
The arboretum at Dyffryn Gardens contains one of the best woody collections in the National Trust, we're looking for an expert and visionary arborist to help us revive it from forlorn to fabulous.
Are you barking for bark?
At Dyffryn, we are aiming to make our arboretum a major visitor attraction, drawing people for not only the expansive botanical collection, but also for its show stopping displays throughout the year. We have an exciting new role available for a Senior Gardener to help us to deliver this ambition.
Help us transform our arboretum
This is a 5 year fixed term appointment, to lead the implementation of the first phase of the arboretum work to create a fantastic visitor experience in our outdoor area at Dyffryn. Our arboretum has had a chequered history, suffering periods of neglect and a lack of inspiration. Many of our original plantings are in need of urgent care and maintenance, and we’re sadly witnessing several specimens declining. This is where you come in.
Who are we looking for?
We want you to help us implement the work identified in the management plan last year, giving Dyffryn the revival it so greatly deserves. We’ll need to open up our collections, which will ensure that each specimen has enough space to grow and prosper, and working alongside the Head Gardener, you’ll introduce new specimens, keeping in line with our spirit of place. You’ll develop a plan that our team can follow, promoting biodiversity and sustainability.
You’ll use your technical experience to direct contractors in a range of specialist arboricultural work to maintain the tree collection across the site. You’ll also lead in developing the skills and knowledge of the staff and volunteers associated with the arboretum and woody collections across the site.
