Bucklands River of Light
Head to the Great Barn where you enter a forest of Christmas trees and be immersed in a river of light.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
Feel the festive vibes with a Christmas tree forest in the Great Barn leading to the large Buckland estate tree.
Follow the twinkling lights of the trees as you meander your way through the forest. But the path is not actually a path....it is a River of Light to make you feel like you are walking through a river.
The rivers and waterways here at Buckland were very important to all the people who lived and worked here and made the abbey their home.
We all rely on rivers. For centuries they’ve been the veins that run through our cities and countryside: providing water for us to drink and grow crops and providing us with tranquil places to explore and escape.
Today though, our rivers are in trouble - and so is the wildlife that depends on them. This means that some of our most important plants, insects, animals and birds are at risk.
As you walk through the barn you will be immersed in the river of light which has been created using rippling lights of blue tone colours. You might also spot the odd fish or two on the side of the barn walls!

What is Gift Aid?
Most of our places run the Gift Aid on Entry scheme at their admission points.
Under this scheme, if you're not a member you have the choice of two entry tickets:
- Gift Aid Admission
- Standard Admission
If the place runs Gift Aid on Entry, we'll offer you a clear choice between the Gift Aid Admission prices and the Standard Admission prices at the admission point. It's entirely up to you which ticket you choose.
Gift Aid Admission includes a 10 per cent or more voluntary donation. Gift Aid Admissions let us reclaim tax on the whole amount paid - an extra 25 per cent - potentially a very significant boost to our places' funds.
An extra £1 paid under the scheme can be worth over £3 to the National Trust as shown below:
|Amount paid by visitor||£11.00||£10.00|
|Tax refund from Government*||£2.75||£0.00|
|Total received by the National Trust||£13.75||£10.00|
