Conservation In Action: Wet Cleaning the Corridor Mosaic

Watch our Conservation staff and Volunteers clean our longest mosaic. This once a year occurrence is a great opportunity to watch conservation in action and ask questions.

  • Booking not needed
  • Free event (admission applies)

16th and 23rd February 10:30-1:30

Our Corridor Mosaic is one of the longest uncovered mosaics in the country and needs constant monitoring and care. It regularly gets swept and its condition monitored but wet cleaning with water happens only once a year. Because the mosaic lies on a natural ground bed, water can rise up through the tiles and deposit salts on top of the tiles. Our conservation team will be using de-ionised water and cotton swabs to remove the salts from the tiles. They will also use brushes and sponges. As they clean there will be a visual difference in the vibrancy of the colors in the mosaic which makes them look extra special!

What is Gift Aid?

Most of our places run the Gift Aid on Entry scheme at their admission points.

Under this scheme, if you're not a member you have the choice of two entry tickets:

  • Gift Aid Admission
  • Standard Admission

If the place runs Gift Aid on Entry, we'll offer you a clear choice between the Gift Aid Admission prices and the Standard Admission prices at the admission point. It's entirely up to you which ticket you choose.

Gift Aid Admission includes a 10 per cent or more voluntary donation. Gift Aid Admissions let us reclaim tax on the whole amount paid - an extra 25 per cent - potentially a very significant boost to our places' funds.

An extra £1 paid under the scheme can be worth over £3 to the National Trust as shown below:

  Gift Aid Standard
Amount paid by visitor £11.00 £10.00
Tax refund from Government* £2.75 £0.00
Total received by the National Trust £13.75 £10.00

Please note...

To avoid disappointment please book in advance, especially at busier times such as weekends and bank holidays. However, where space is available on weekdays, pre-booking may not always be necessary. If you do not book, we cannot guarantee admission. Free entry for National Trust members. However please note pre-booking is required for everyone.
