Guided walk to Belle Tout Lighthouse
Find out more about the archaeology of Belle Tout and the history of its iconic lighthouse.
- Booking essential
A guided 2.5 mile walk around what may have been the largest ancient hilltop enclosure in the country. Archaeological digs have unearthed burial mounds, Beaker pottery and other artefacts as well as a controversial shaft dug by our ancestors 40 metres deep into the chalk. On reaching the lighthouse, that has featured in the TV series “The Life and Loves of a She-Devil”, the story of “Mad Jack” Fuller tells how this colourful local character endowed its construction early in the 19th century.
The walk suits the moderately fit with one long hill at the start.
