Exhibition: Portraits from the Derek Hill Collection
Showcasing some of the key portrait works from Mottisfont’s permanent 20th century art collection, including Edgar Degas and Georges Seurat.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
Alongside the Lichfield, Donovan and Duffy: Snapping the Sixties exhibition, we'll be highlighting some of the portraits from our permanent collection in one room of the gallery. The collection was gifted by the artist Derek Hill, who was a frequent visitor to Mottisfont due to a close friendship with last owner Maud Russell. In 1996, Hill gave his collection of 86 pictures to the National Trust through The Art Fund to be displayed here.

What is Gift Aid?
Most of our places run the Gift Aid on Entry scheme at their admission points.
Under this scheme, if you're not a member you have the choice of two entry tickets:
- Gift Aid Admission
- Standard Admission
If the place runs Gift Aid on Entry, we'll offer you a clear choice between the Gift Aid Admission prices and the Standard Admission prices at the admission point. It's entirely up to you which ticket you choose.
Gift Aid Admission includes a 10 per cent or more voluntary donation. Gift Aid Admissions let us reclaim tax on the whole amount paid - an extra 25 per cent - potentially a very significant boost to our places' funds.
An extra £1 paid under the scheme can be worth over £3 to the National Trust as shown below:
|Amount paid by visitor||£11.00||£10.00|
|Tax refund from Government*||£2.75||£0.00|
|Total received by the National Trust||£13.75||£10.00|
*Gift Aid Admissions let us reclaim tax on the whole amount paid - an extra 25 per cent - potentially a very significant boost to our places' funds.
Free entry for National Trust members, Art Fund members and under 5s.
Peak prices apply for June (rose season), and bank holidays (Easter Friday/Monday, August, and May).
Off-peak prices apply every day from 3.30pm (including the evening openings during rose season), and when there are limits to our offer (for example, when the house or gallery are closed).
- Assistance dogs are welcome.
- Meeting point
- The exhibition is in the gallery on the top floor of the house.
- For visitors unable to access the second floor gallery, we have digital versions of exhibitions on iPads which are available on lower levels.
