Stonehenge and Avebury walking challenge

An opportunity to walk in the footsteps of our ancestors in this iconic landscape, rich in archaeology, wildlife and plants. You can enjoy these wide open spaces by challenging yourself to complete all eight walks - once done you'll have walked 50km.

The walking challenge pack includes a map holder, a set of eight self-guided walks - four in the Stonehenge landscape and four in the Avebury landscape, information about the walks and a free cup of tea at Avebury. Each walk describes the archaeology and wildlife as you go. So why not embrace health, feed your curiosity and challenge yourself. If you complete the walks by the end of the year you can enter a prize draw.

Unfortunately dogs are not welcome at this event.
What to bring and wear
Please dress appropriately for the time of year. Sturdy walking boots are recommended as the ground can be uneven and muddy.
Accessibility
Please note that most of these walks have stiles. Not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.
Other
Once registered the walking challenge pack will be sent to you by post. The walks are self-led and can be undertaken at your leisure, at any time you wish. If you complete the walks by the end of the year you can enter a prize draw. Note: Dogs are not permitted on the Stonehenge walks, but are welcome on a lead and under control on the Avebury walks. There may be livestock along some routes.

This year at Avebury we’ll be shining a light on recent excavations through a pop up exhibition in the Barn gallery. This exhibition will highlight many of the results of those excavations alongside a selection of the artefacts discovered.
