On this six day course you will make either a comb back or bow back Windsor chair in ash. Starting with locally grown ash logs . These are split axed and shaved using a draw knife into cylinders to be then turned into chair parts on the pole lathe. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are spent turning all the legs, stretchers and back sticks. These are then kiln dried in our kiln ready for assembly. Thursday is spent fashioning a hardwood seat using adzes, travishers and other exotic hand tools. Friday the seat is drilled and the legs and lower parts go in. In the meantime, you will have steam bent a comb or bow. Saturday sees the upper parts put together and you go home with a fully functioning Windsor chair.
