Live restoration of the Liddesdale Canoe

See conservation in action as a team of boat builders restore the Liddesdale Canoe, Nancy Astor's private and much loved vessel.

  • Booking not needed
  • Free event (admission applies)

After a successful fundraising appeal to ‘save the Liddesdale', we've raised £25,000 to embark on the conservation work of this important and rare canoe.

Pop down to the Boathouse to see our boat builders Seb, Laura and Becci in action on most weekdays between 12noon – 1pm and 2pm – 3pm. Please be respectful of their hard-earned lunch break between 1pm - 2pm.

A volunteer guide will be there often answering any questions you may have about the boat’s rich history and its exciting future.

What is Gift Aid?

Most of our places run the Gift Aid on Entry scheme at their admission points.

Under this scheme, if you're not a member you have the choice of two entry tickets:

  • Gift Aid Admission
  • Standard Admission

If the place runs Gift Aid on Entry, we'll offer you a clear choice between the Gift Aid Admission prices and the Standard Admission prices at the admission point. It's entirely up to you which ticket you choose.

Gift Aid Admission includes a 10 per cent or more voluntary donation. Gift Aid Admissions let us reclaim tax on the whole amount paid - an extra 25 per cent - potentially a very significant boost to our places' funds.

An extra £1 paid under the scheme can be worth over £3 to the National Trust as shown below:

  Gift Aid Standard
Amount paid by visitor £11.00 £10.00
Tax refund from Government* £2.75 £0.00
Total received by the National Trust £13.75 £10.00

*Gift Aid Admissions let us reclaim tax on the whole amount paid - an extra 25 per cent - potentially a very significant boost to our places' funds.

Please note...

Travel to Cliveden by 'green transport' and receive a £1 voucher to spend in the National Trust shop or café. Mooring at Cliveden Reach is possible at suitable locations for more than ½ mile downstream from Cliveden boathouse. Mooring charges are set at £5 for members and £10 for non-members, per 24 hours. We have roaming River Custodians who will approach moored boats and request this fee. If you do not see a Custodian during your stay, please head up to the National Trust Information Kiosk for payment. As a conservation charity, these fees are vital funds needed to protect and maintain spaces such as the Cliveden Reach. Please note, if you would like to enjoy the gardens or woodlands on your visit, admission to the Cliveden Estate applies.
