On this informative woodland-walk around Penshaw Monument, quarry and woods, you'll join National Trust ranger Dan, on a journey of discovery.

Learn about the site’s fascinating history through its fauna and flora. Find out about the role of a National Trust ranger, and the work we do to conserve Penshaw Monument and the surrounding areas.

There are two hour-long walking tours Tuesday 31 May, 11-12pm and 12-1pm.

The basics

Meeting point
Climb Penshaw Hill and meet at the base of the monument. Please arrive 5 minutes early and allow time to ascend the hill.
What to bring and wear
Wear sensible outdoor shoes to climb Penshaw Hill. Wear appropriate outdoor clothing for all weathers.
Accessibility
To climb Penshaw Hill is via steps directly from the lane or a path that circles the hill. The trails on Penshaw Hill are undulating woodland trails.
Other
Booking not necessary. This is a free walking tour to celebrate Sunderland heritage week.
