C.S. Lewis was a frequent visitor to Murlough. Its woodland are said to have inspired Narnia woods. With tree spirits coming to the aid of Prince Caspian in his famous book, this tree looks like it might suddenly come to life. See if you find any doors to a hidden world.
Believed to be one of the oldest trees on the estate, perhaps even planted in the time of the Earl Bishop, it can be found off the beaten track in the Bog Garden near Bishop’s Gate gardens. Without a leading trunk, this eye-catching tree was quite possibly struck by lightning in the past.
