Kayak the coastline at Aberdaron
Between Whitsun and September there will be ‘turn up and have a go’ kayaking sessions on offer at Aberdaron through an exciting partnership with local outdoor activity providers, Llŷn Adventures.
These introductory kayaking sessions run from Aberdaron beach using single seat and tandem sit on top kayaks which are easy to paddle and are very stable.
Sessions vary depending on the sea conditions. When the sea is calm we offer a scenic journey and the chance to learn about this fascinating coastline, its rich local history and incredible wildlife, including sea birds like puffins and Manx shearwaters, as well as seals and porpoises. If the sea is rough and the weather is still favourable you can have a go at surfing in the waves.
During the session you will be looked after by a qualified kayaking coach who will provide you with all the necessary equipment and look after you throughout your adventure. You will need to bring swim wear, old trainers and a towel.
Where and when?
Sessions run on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays during Whitsun and summer school holidays and on Saturdays between the two holiday periods and throughout September. A session lasts 2 hours and start times are 10am, 12.30pm and 2.45pm.
A session costs £25 per person, (20% discount for National Trust members).
Do I need to book?
There is no need to pre-book so you can turn up and have a go. However if you’re keen to secure your place you can book in advance by contacting Porth y Swnt.
The meeting place and session start point is Porth y Swnt visitor centre, Aberdaron.
- Minimum age is 8 and we advise that children under 11 should be accompanied by an adult
- Young children are best sharing one of the tandem kayaks with one or two adults
- Swimming ability is useful but not vital
If you are keen to try stand up paddle boarding, staff at the Porth y Swnt visitor centre can also book you on to sessions happening at Porthdinllaen during whitsun and the summer holidays.
Llŷn Adventures also offer a host of other activities like surfing, coasteering or rock climbing for you to try. These activities take place at various other locations around Llŷn, for more information visit Llŷn Adventures.
