Night Run FAQs
Here are some useful answers to the questions you may have about joining a Night Run.
How do I book?
Online entry for each event will be open until approximately 24 hours before each event. Entries on the day will be accepted (cash only) unless the event has reached its participant capacity.
Do I need a torch?
Yes, every competitor will need a torch to get round the course. A reasonable quality head torch would be ideal and please ensure you have spare batteries too.
What distance are the events?
We have two different event distance options:
Short (Explorer) These routes will be 1-3km in length and ideally suited to families, walkers and those new to running. It will be a great first step into exploring at night and should take between 10 and 30 minutes to get round.
Long (Adventurer) These routes will be 6-9km in length and ideally suited to people who want to challenge themselves. The challenge could be running at a good pace or completing your first ever run with a head torch. You'll need a reasonable level of fitness but will still suit walkers, joggers and runners of all abilities. It will take between 30 minutes and an hour-and-a-half to get round depending on ability. Due to the nature of the courses you'll never be too far from the event HQ.
What is the terrain for Night Runs?
Typically our Night Runs are off-road on a mix of multi-terrain paths, bridleways or grassland. The route is marked with glow sticks and arrows, with marshalls at critical points to ensure everyone follows the route safely.
Can children enter?
Yes, all children are welcome on the short Explorer course but must be accompanied around the course by an adult. To take part in the long Adventurer course children must be over the age of 12 and, if under the age of 16, must be accompanied by an adult around the course.
Can I run with my dog?
We welcome dogs on leads where possible but this is down to the discretion of each property, so please check out the Participant Information sheets for specific info about your chosen event’s rules.
Is the event timed?
We would like everyone to enjoy the informal, friendly atmosphere of this event so for the 2017 - 2018 series, there will be no timing or results available. Please feel free to bring your own timing device.
Where does my entry fee go?
Night Running events help us to support our essential conservation work. Your entry fee will go to the location where you run so you can be sure the money is being spent on conserving our special places.
What are the safety rules?
If you've suffered a recent illness or have a medical condition consult your doctor before taking part. If in any doubt, don't compete. Safety is our priority and all runners should take precautions on the expected uneven terrain. A medical team will be in attendance throughout the event.
How much will it cost?
Adventurer Night Run route (6-9 km):
- Individual - £14
- Group (4 or more) - £13*
Explorer Night Run route (1-3 km):
- Individual - £7
- Group (4 or more) - £6*
* To qualify for the group discount, participants must enter the same route. It cannot be a mixture of both
