This straw bale building provides an educational base for people to reconnect with nature and explore the great outdoors through our programme of activities and workshops. Just walking distance from Windermere, the meadows, woodland and grazed parkland around St Catherine’s Estate are all teeming with wildlife and wild flowers making it the perfect place to get away from it all.

Green woodworking

Recharge your batteries and craft something beautiful out of green wood using traditional techniques in the peaceful St Catherine's woodland. We have a range of green woodworking workshops, you could hand-carve a bowl or spoon, or even make your own bench.

Hammock camps

An inspiring weekend woodland experience sleeping outdoors cosy in a hammock, starlit skies, and campfire cooking. The hammocks will be strung close to the ground so you can access them from a standing position making this camp suitable for all ages. Learn techniques for pitching a hammock and tarp efficiently and some useful knots. Choose your trees and set up for a cosy and comfortable night close to nature. There will be various projects throughout the weekend using natural materials including learning how to make cordage from natural fibres and learning techniques for cooking on an open fire.

Learn to build a fire, play games, try out woodland crafts and build a shelter, track wildlife, collect wild food and always enjoy some camp fire treats! Discover some wonderful woodland secrets across the seasons in six sessions.
