Celebrating 50 years caring for the Formby coast

The stunning coastline here at Formby is home to some of the most precious sand dune habitats in the UK. Shaped by wind and tides, 2017 sees the National Trust celebrate 50 years of working with the local community to look after this special place.

We are so proud that this landmark anniversary year also saw the transfer of an additional 204 hectares of land along the Formby coast into our care from Sefton Council. This means that a total of 414 hectares are now safeguarded for the benefit of future generations and the wildlife that

The Trust is now starting to look ahead to the next 50 years at Formby and what the future looks like for this beautiful and dynamic landscape. In response to feedback, we are keen to plan conservation work to help the wildlife here to thrive and to improve facilities and access for the many people who enjoy coming to this part of the Formby coast.
