Gibside Good Dog

Two dogs with their owners at Gibside

Gibside is the perfect place for dogs. With plenty of ground to cover, lots of sticks to play with and other dogs to meet, it's ideal for your pooch. However, there are also lots of other visitors too. So, we're encouraging good dog behaviour through responsible dog ownership, called Gibside Good Dog.

To help, during your visit, you'll see signs showing Amber (a 4 year old Cocker Spaniel belonging to Head Ranger, Helen) explaining the do's and don'ts to Edison (a young, Old English Sheepdog - in the picture above - belonging to Visitor Experience Manager, Mel).

This is all part of the Gibside Good Dog scheme in partnership with Vets4Pets Gateshead.

The aim is that guest dogs visiting Gibside should also follow in Amber's paws. You can even sign your dog up to the Gibside Good Dog reward scheme.

Good Dog Reward Scheme

Think your dog has what it takes? Then sign them up at Visitor Reception and recieve a reward card that can get stamped by a Gibside team member if your dog is seen following the Golden Rules (below) during your visit.

Once your card is full you can claim your dog's good behaviour prize. We're working with the local Vets4Pets branch in Gateshead to offer some vet related rewards too.

How well behaved is your dog? Will they fill the card?

Good Dog Golden Rules

  • Please keep dogs on leads at all times during your visit to help protect wildlife and not frighten other visitors.
  • Please pick up after your dog and put the bag in a bin (there are bins around the estate and you can ask a member of staff if you need any bags).
  • Please keep dogs out of the play areas; dogs could wait at the side while children play.

Doggy Services available

We have dog leads for loan, doggy watering stations in various locations, spare dog poo bags, sheltered seating at the cafes and dog parking bays around the estate. Your dog may even get a little doggy biscuit treat.

We're looking to host some dog related events during the year too - so watch this space as things get underway.
