Literature Week, 1 - 9 June

Greenway Literary Festival will play host to lots of authors

Visitors were inspired at the first ever Greenway Literary Festival. Crime and thriller, nature and travel, or historical fiction, award winning and bestselling authors explored their writing at Agatha Christie's holiday home.

There couldn’t be a better place to celebrate books, reading and writing than the holiday home of Agatha Christie. A jam packed schedule of talks and workshops were on hand to sink your teeth into, and a handy downloadable programme to keep.

We worked in partnership with Literature Works, who support creative writing and the development of writers and readers of all ages, from all walks of life in our region. The first Greenway Literary Festival showcased some of the finest writers from the South West and further afield, and satisfied the thirst of every booklover.

Books to die for

It couldn’t be a Literary Festival at Agatha Christie’s holiday home without a bit of crime. Contemporary crime writers, amazon bestsellers and award winners. Visitors met the person breathing life back into Hercule Poirot and leared more about the Queen of Crime herself, Agatha Christie.

Poetry and collections

Beauty can be found anywhere, be it natural, a sense of perspective, or hidden. The short story collections and poetry writers shared their works and their inspiration behind it.

The natural world

With coast paths, beaches and grasslands on your doorstep, natural refreshment is only a step away. Are you an avid bird watcher? Is wild swimming more your thing? Or maybe it’s the animal kingdom that fascinates you. Take a peek at the programme and see which writers would've inspired you.

Remembering D-Day

Greenway was requisitioned during World War Two and used first to house child evacuees, and then from 1944 to 1945 was used by the US Coastguard in the run up to the D Day landings.

On Thursday 4 June, writers explored their works around this anniversary, and there were talks in the house sharing the story of Greenway's connection to this key historic moment of the Second World War.

Greenway’s Writers-in-Residence

For the past three years Greenway has supported a Writer-in-Residence as part of the Writing Places programme, working in partnership with Literature Works. Inspired by the beauty and grounds, the writers returned to Greenway to share their experiences.
