Head Gardener's October highlights

Bright lemon yellow helianthus flowers at Greys Court

There’s always something to look out for in the gardens. Discover what delights you can find during October. If you need help finding anything mentioned below don’t hesitate to ask one of our very helpful garden team members, they’ll be out and about in the gardens!

Autumn colours

The garden showcases wonderfully the colours of Autumn throughout October.

In the Rose Garden look out for the tall Helianthus 'Lemon Queen', as well as the Mexican sunflower near the green gate with its vivid orange daisy-like flowers.

Whilst taking a strolll through the arboretum enjoy the autumnal hues on the cut-leaved Beech tree and the smaller Persian Ironwood tree.

Further out in the estate the Beech woods are alive with red, orange and yellow tones, making for great photo opportunities and beautiful scenery to walk through.

Garden jobs

Throughout October catch the wonderful garden team, and volunteers, carrying out a variety of jobs in the garden.

They will be harvesting produce like plums and apples; planting new hardy perennials; and also scarifying lawns and giving them an 'autumn feed'.

Towards the end of October the team will be planting 1000s of bulbs. Come March you will start seeing those wonderful colours of spring bulbs appearing throughout the gardens.
