Observations, Recollections and Reflections - Mike Finney
Have a look in Orchard Gallery from 16 September to 9 October to see 'Observations, Recollections and Reflections' by artist Mike Finney.
Mike has been interested in drawing and painting from as long as he can remember. After leaving school he studied creative design at Loughborough, where he specialised in visual studies, silversmithing and ceramics. He went on to spend 35 years working in education, writing and teaching art, craft and latterly, computer aided design. Throughout that time he painted as a hobby whenever time allowed. During his time in education, he had the good fortune to work alongside the late Gill Nadin. Gill taught him life drawing and was an inspiration to Mike, encouraging him to paint and draw.
After retiring from full time teaching in 2010, to pursue a career in painting, drawing and printing, Mike now works in a wide range of materials including mixed media and relief printing from his studio at Forge Arts in Hackthorn, Lincolnshire.
" Much of my work is now commission based but the subject matter for my own work is drawn from observations of the world around me, atmosphere and personal experience. "
Mike exhibits his work locally and has paintings in private collections in Australia, France, Germany and the USA. He was accepted as a member of the Lincolnshire Artists’ Society in April 2010 and exhibited regularly with 'Art On The Map' in West Lindsey until the group disbanded in 2016.
This exhibition has provided Mike with an opportunity to observe and recollect his work over the last ten years, to see the progression in terms of skill and style and reflect on future directions he may take. In putting the exhibition together he is indebted to those who have loaned work for him to exhibit.
