Learning at Hardcastle Crags

Family pond dipping with Gibson Mill behind them

At Hardcastle Crags there are lots of opportunities for learning (and having fun) whatever the age of your group members.

What we do

We are open throughout the year and work with schools, colleges, university and a wide variety of community groups.

Some of our most popular activities

Guided Tour of Gibson Mill

A fascinating tour exploring industry, leisure and renewable energy!

Science and nature

Why not try pond dipping or a minibeast hunt? Learn about trees or make a bird box or bird feeder

Environmental art

This is a great place to sketch, take digital pictures or make a collage or natural sculpture.

Planning your visit

To help you get the most from your trip to Hardcastle Crags, we encourage group leaders to make a free preliminary visit.

Schools

We can offer activities to suit a range of ages and abilities from KS1 to KS4, whether you stay for a couple of hours or a full day.

Colleges and universities

Studying renewable energy or sustainability? Tourism or heritage management?

If you are planning a visit for a group or looking for a case study for project work, get in touch and we'll do our best to help.

Community groups

Hardcastle Crags lies within walking distance of Hebden Hey Scout Centre, so is an ideal place to visit and work towards some of your badges during your stay. Why not take a tour of Gibson Mill or try out our orienteering course?
