Summer Holidays at Hardwick

Children playing in the summer

Enjoy Hardwick this summer holidays with a different activity every day for all the family to enjoy.

Please note on 21-22 August the Hall, garden and parkland will be closed to the public for an event. Over these two days visit nearby Stainsby Mill, 10 - 4pm, who are celebrating summer with family games and trails. See more at https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/hardwick-estate-stainsby-mill

Entertain your outdoor explorers and discover the garden and parkland. There's lots to discover indoors for those rainy days.

Learn about Hardwick’s outdoors team and get hands on with activities. We’ll be celebrating World Ranger Day by asking ‘What’s a Hardwick Ranger?’ See what the rangers do to care for the estate using some of their equipment and have a go on the Ranger’s tractor- they might even let you beep the horn.

Discover the newly restored Duck Decoy at the ponds and learn about its interesting past. Find out what sort of ducks would have been trapped there by listening to their different quacks.

In the garden, use flowers out of the garden to make your own flower roundel, or make your own wildlife mask using Hardwick’s nature as inspiration. There will be opportunities to taste some of Hardwick’s produce with the gardeners, and learn more about how we use Hardwick’s harvest.

Bring a picnic and relax in the historic garden, whilst it’s at its best and let the children get active with the garden games. There are plenty of picnic spots around the garden and parkland at Hardwick. Try next to the ponds in the parkland where benches and a great view are guaranteed.

Join a led bug hunt and let your outdoor explorers learn more about Hardwick’s bug life down Lady Spencer’s. Or enjoy the gardens with some led storytelling with tales for all the family.

On those rainy days, there’s a lot to discover indoors, from learning about caring for the collection and getting hands on or completing the brand new hall trail. Learn about portraits around the Hall, and have a go at making your own by taking a #Hardwick selfie.
