Father’s Day at Hatchlands Park
Treat your dad to a day of kite-flying at Hatchlands Park this Father’s Day, Sunday 17 June from 10am-5pm. We won’t just be flying kites but making them as well, with free entry on the day for every dad. Wind is not included.
Bring Dad to Hatchlands this Father’s Day and let him show off his flying skills at our kite day. If you’re a seasoned kite flyer then you can bring your own but, if you’d like a little help getting started, you can have a go at making one yourself in our kite craft workshop (£3 per workshop).
We’ll be helping you make fun, simple kites from Kite Kids. These easy-to-use kits don’t require any cutting, just some folding, sticking and knot tying and you’ll be all ready to fly.
Once your kites are unpacked or created then you can head out in search of the fuel that makes them fly - wind. With 400 acres of parkland to choose from, there are loads of spots where you can try to get airborne. We recommend trying your luck on the hilltop close to Little Wix Wood (point 8 on our map), the most exposed spot on the estate. On a clear day you might even catch a glimpse on the London skyline in the distance.
Whilst you’re out and about in the park why not take the opportunity to tick a few of those 50 Things to do before you're 11 ¾ off your scrapbook list. Kite flying is number seven, but there are loads more activities available for you to do at Hatchlands from building dens to making a grass trumpet – perhaps dad might give you a hand?
Gifts and refreshments
You’ll find even more exciting items to really make your kite day take off in our shop in the cobbled courtyard. We’ve got traditional diamond fabric kites, a paint-your-own kite kit or a mini butterfly kite for small children. Alternatively, if you want something a little more extravagant, why not try a Supersonic Catapult Flyer or make your own Bird Glider.
There are also great gifts for dads. Our shop has a range of items that caters for many interests whether it’s gardening, walking, reading or food. If you need help with ideas please do call in and we’ll show you the many products available plus a selection of Father’s Day cards.
Don’t forget to drop by our cosy Kitchen Café, also off the cobbled courtyard, in spaces originally occupied by the house kitchens. Drop by for delicious cakes, coffees and light bites made fresh on site each day.
