Music in the garden at Hatchlands Park

The Bloomsbury String Trio

Fancy a lazy afternoon of classical music in the summer sunshine? Look no further. Every Friday in August, from 2pm-4pm, we’ll be presenting a musical accompaniment as you spend time with the family in the gardens at Hatchlands Park. Break out the lawn chairs or throw down your picnic blankets and enjoy tunes from talented musicians.

Hatchlands Park is a musical house, home to the Cobbe Collection of composer-related musical instruments. This summer we’ve decided to make the outdoor spaces a little more musical too. Normally closed on a Friday, our formal gardens near to the house are open each week during the school summer holidays. We’re taking that opportunity to further brighten the already spectacular surroundings with some al fresco music to drift across the park.

You can expect to hear a mixed programme of relaxing classical music in keeping with spirit of Hatchlands Park and the collections we care for, with a little toe tapping jazz thrown in. Keep an ear out for the likes of Gershwin, Handel, Joplin, Albeniz, and Piazzolla, all in the very capable hands of two fantastic ensembles.

The Bloomsbury String Trio is one of London’s top classical chamber ensembles, performing at a huge number of events and concerts each year. All of the members have extremely busy and varied careers working with the likes of the Royal Ballet Sinfonia, English National Ballet, Academy of Ancient Music and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra to name just a few.

You’ll still be able find all the usual Hatchlands favourites from space hoppers on the lawn to the children’s natural adventure area in the woodland, with tranquil walks and peaceful picnic spots dotted in between. You can round off your long summer day with by picking up a memory of your visit in our shop, enjoying an ice cream in the Coach House Café or stop by the Kitchen Café for light bites, cream teas and coffee and cake in the cobbled courtyard.

We hope you enjoy a magical and musical summer in the sunshine at Hatchlands Park.
