Hatfield Forest Explorer Groups

Children enjoying the trees in Hatfield Forest, Essex

We run three groups on a monthly basis, catering for different age ranges, Acorns, Twiglets and Young Foresters. Come and have some fun in the Forest.

Acorns

It's time for an outdoor adventure with our Acorn leader Kate.  Our monthly club, for 2 to 4 year-olds, with a parent or guardian, is held on a  Tuesday morning, from 10.30 to 12.00.

Acorns is perfect for children who love playing and exploring and getting a bit muddy. Each week we spend about an hour outside exploring the forest and enjoying nature themed activities, followed by half an hour in the classroom making something for your very own scrapbook.

It is very important children come prepared in warm clothes/waterproofs/sun protection as appropriate.

Twiglets

Twiglets is our monthly club for 5 to 7 year olds with a parent or guardian.  The sessions are held on a Saturday and last for 90 minutes, from 11.00 to 12.30.

At each session we will be discovering something new about the forest and the animals that live here. Each week we explore the forest and its habitats whilst completing nature trails, pond dipping and bug hunts. The children also make nature themed arts and crafts and some yummy tasty treats.

Twiglets offers a chance for children to make new friends, learn new skills and have fun in a fabulous setting.

Young Foresters

Young Foresters is our parent-free monthly club for 8 to 14 year olds.  Sessions are held on the second Saturday of each month (except September) and run from 14.00 to 16.00.  In July there is a summer camp.

During each session our young foresters make an important contribution to the Forest by helping the rangers with practical conservation.  New skills are learnt whilst taking part in nature themed activities, and making traditional woodland crafts.  We also have wild camping in the Forest in July.
