About Sawmill Cottage

Full of history and charm, this little cottage has a traditional stone exterior and exposed beams inside.

Once a vital part of Cotehele’s thriving milling industry, this pretty little cottage offers a stay with historic significance. It used to house a water-powered sawmill in its basement and sits next to Cotehele’s impressive 18th-century mill. Now it makes a cosy two-bedroom retreat full of character with its traditional stone exterior, barn doors, latticed windows and dark exposed beams.  You’ll be the heart of the secluded sylvan Morden Valley, with views across the flower-rich meadow to the stream and the woods beyond.

See history in action next door in the mill. Twice a week throughout the season you can watch the mill stone grind flour. Why not buy a packet and head next door to bake an afternoon treat?

Further afield, the city of Plymouth is just a short drive away. Discover its fascinating naval heritage, enjoy a delicious dinner at one the city’s many restaurants and finish the day with a walk along the hoe.

About the Acorn rating

We have applied a 1-5 acorn rating to each cottage to be used only as a guide that covers location, style of interior and facilities you may be looking for. The range runs from 1 Acorn at a more basic level such as Bird How which due to its stunning yet remote location doesn’t have a caretaker through to 5 Acorns at the highest level – such as Shute Barton.

Cottage pricing is not judged on the Acorn rating alone and as all our cottages are of an individual nature we recommend that all factors are considered when making your choice.
