About Get batty at SlindonHelp survey the winged wonders on the beautiful South Downs.
Like bats, this holiday has a largely nocturnal schedule: the working day will start in the afternoon with classroom sessions on recording and data analysis and then you’ll work until around midnight to get up close to these winged wonders. Mornings can be spent exploring the beautiful local countryside. With the direction of local experts you might be surveying emerging bats in Trust buildings and will then walk transect routes of around 2 hours a night on steep and uneven downland on the Slindon Estate. A good level of fitness is required and some bat detector experience is desirable but no prior knowledge is essential.
About the accommodation
Slindon Bunkhouse is a converted stable block on the 1,400-hectare estate at Slindon between Arundel and Chichester. The estate is typical of the South Downs with rolling hills and farmland set against a background of woodland and hedges. In addition to that it has an ancient deer park and various archaeological sites. The bunkhouse has a recently refurbished kitchen and seating area with sofas.
Notes for guests
