About Woodlands of the White PeakJoin the rangers in the White Peak clearing areas of understorey and scrub to manage the woodlands and increase biodiversity.
Explore the woodlands of the White Peak while helping us with a large scale woodland management project. Working with staff and other volunteers, you will be clearing areas of understorey and scrub to improve the age structure of the woodlands and increase biodiversity. This work is part of our response to the threat of ash dieback. Due to the rough and steep terrain the work can be physically demanding.
About the accommodation
The bunkhouse is in a wing of the old stable block behind Ilam Hall and sits within Ilam Park, a beautiful landscape open to the public all year round. The hall is run separately as a Youth Hostel by the Youth Hostel Association. The stable block also houses the main National Trust visitor facilities including the visitor centre, tea-room, shop and toilets.
Facilities: drying room, washing machine, pay phone.
Bedding: No bedding/linen provided.
Notes for guests
What to bring: Clothes you don't mind getting muddy, full waterproofs and sturdy walking/outdoor boots are required.
A standard kit list can be found on our Essential Information page.
Work will often take place on steep slopes.
