Potto Brown is one of the best known millers here at Houghton Mill.
Potto Brown was a philanthropist, who founded local schools and a chapel. His father, William Brown was a baker and miller in Earith, before he moved to run Houghton Mill. Potto took over the mill with his buisness parter, Joseph Goodman in 1821 after his father retired.
After his death in 1871, a bronze bust was erected in the village square which still stands today.
