Learning at Hudswell Woods

Children building a den from twigs and branches Hudswell Woods

Remember those days of whiling away the hours building dens, turning stones to see what lurked beneath and fishing for tadpoles? When a sign of a good day was, the muddier the better? We use this as inspiration to deliver education activities in the Dales, creating fun-filled and memorable learning experiences for all.

What we offer

There are lots of opportunities for learning and having fun whatever the age of your group members. We are open throughout the year and work with schools and a wide variety of community groups.
From guided walks on the many trails to explore this magical place, building dens in the woods or navigating using a GPS device (geocaching) to becoming a nature detective for a day, Hudswell Woods is the perfect place to enjoy and learn in the great outdoors.

Linking to the National Curriculum and work schemes from KS1 to KS4, we can offer activities to suit a range of ages and abilities whether you stay for a couple of hours or a full day.

Higher education

The Dales is an incredibly rich ecological landscape bursting with opportunities for study. We work with college and university students as well as PhD candidates on various projects.

Community groups

We are keen for everyone to discover and enjoy this special area. If you are a local community group looking for somewhere to visit then please get in touch or alternatively we could visit you and do a talk.

Facilities, transport and access

If anyone in your group has mobility problems, please let us know and we will do our best to cater for them.
Sadly we don’t have an indoor space at Hudswell Woods but there are public toilets in the Round Howe car park.

A full day of activities led by staff is £50, half day £25.
