Summer adventures for families at Hughenden

During the summer holidays there’s plenty to see and do at Hughenden, along with a whole range of events to enjoy from Wed 25 Jul – Wed 5 Sep

You can set off with your family exploring the gardens, build a den in the woods, take on a bug hunt in the walled garden or discover the secret playroom in the manor house. Add in a picnic in the orchard and you’re set for a fantastic day out this summer.

Our café serves delicious hot meals and light snacks, tea-time treats and ice-cream, so you can drop in for much-needed refreshments to fuel your adventures.

Young Explorers

Every day from 25 Jul to 5 Sep, 10am-5pm

Grab your backpack and put on your best explorers hat as you go on Holly Hedgehog's summer trail around the Hughenden estate. Adventure awaits as you explore the gardens, woods and parkland and spot the creatures hiding in the undergrowth.

Hughenden Adventure Maps available for £2 from the Visitor Welcome Kiosk. Suitable for all ages.

Jess French at Hughenden

Sat 28 Jul, 11am-12noon,  in the Walled Garden at Hughenden.

From beetles to butterflies and from woodlands to wetlands there are so many creatures and habitats in danger because of the way we live our lives. If you’re interested in saving our planet protecting the world around you then join wildlife TV presenter, vet and zoologist Jess French for a fact packed event as she shares her tips on creative ways to have fun doing your bit – from making bug hotels to packing no-rubbish lunches – based on her new book How to Help a Hedgehog and Protect a Polar Bear.

 

Her event is for families with children aged 6+

Up, Up and Away

Every Thu and Fri from 26 Jul to 31 Aug, 10.30am-4pm  

Tick off no.7 from the ‘50 things to do before you're 11 and ¾’ list and make a kite in Hughenden’s studybase. Everything you need will be in your crafting kit, with experts on hand to help you build and decorate your own flying creation.

Suitable for children aged 5-12 years. £4 per child, plus normal admission.

Trail Trackers

Tues 31 Jul, Wed 15 and Tue 28 Aug,10.30am-12noon

Become a trail tracker for the day with our Ranger team and explore Hughenden’s parkland. You’ll have fun learning about orienteering, making your way with a compass and map and spotting the signs of wildlife.

Ideal for children aged 5-10 years. £4 per child, plus normal admission. Children must be accompanied by an adult, adults go free. Not suitable for wheelchairs or buggies as the trail runs through the parkland, suitable for dogs on leads.

Big Tree Climbing

Thu 2, Fri 3, Thu 16 and 30 Aug, 10am-5pm

The ultimate summertime adventure, you can reach new heights in one of Hughenden’s fantastic giant horse chestnut trees. The highly skilled and friendly instructors will teach you how to climb up into the tree canopy using ropes, knots and karabiners. You’ll be securely attached in a harness at all times. When you reach the top you’ll see a view only a few people ever get to enjoy. And that’s another of your '50 things' list ticked! 

Suitable for children aged 6 and over. £20 per person for a one hour session. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Summer Croquet

Thu 26 Jul, Thu 2, 9 16, 23, 30 Aug, 11am-4pm

Join Wycombe Croquet Club for a game or two on Hughenden Manor’s pristine lawn. Friendly instructors will be on hand to show you how it’s done and the tricks to get through all the hoops.

Suitable for children of any age. Free event, normal admission applies.
