When the heavens open, we do too!

Youngsters in wellies winter walking

The great British weather is unpredictable, but don’t let it stop you visiting Ickworth, we’ve plenty of wet weather activities to do to escape, or embrace the rain!

Ickworth and its 1800 acres are a great place to explore – whatever the weather!

Here are our top tips for embracing the outdoors when you hear the pitter patter of raindrops falling.

  • There are always places along a walk to escape from the rain, use the Temple in the Italianate Garden, Fawn Summerhouse on the Albana walk and the Earl’s Summerhouse in the Walled Garden.

  • You might find you start noticing things like the polished colours of wet leaves or the eerie and mystical atmosphere of the sheltered Victorian stumpery when trying to dodge the rain showers.

  • Visit the Rotunda and marvel at the beautiful collection, collected over hundreds of years by members of the Hervey family, and enjoy the stories of those who lived here.

  • Splash in the puddles as you walk and discover our seasonal trails which, even in the rain, offer great views of the Parkland as you delve into the outdoors landscape and the wildlife and nature which live here.

  • Every school holiday, get crafty in the comfort of our West Wing Gallery with our children’s crafts available to families. A chance to showcase your creative side and be inspired by the history which surrounds us.

  • Don’t worry if you’ve not come prepared for the wet weather – our Gift shop will have everything you may need, including gloves, umbrellas and waterproofs!

  • There are also ample places at Ickworth to relax and unwind with a cuppa and a taste of our seasonal scones. The recently renovated Porters Lodge Café now has indoor seating and is a perfect hide-out with your four legged friend.

  • Grab a bargain in our secondhand bookshop and enjoy a good read whilst overlooking the Italianate Garden either in our Orangery or Gallery Mezzanine.
