On a summer's evening there's nothing better than pulling up a chair, unpacking a picnic and settling down to live entertainment on the North Lawn at Ightham Mote.

Join us as Illyria outdoor theatre company bring to life Hugh Lofting’s classic tale of “The adventures of Dr Dolittle”. A funny, much-loved and exciting adventure, with a strong message about responsibility towards animals and the environment.

Saturday 2 June, 6pm

Dr John Dolittle from Puddleby-on-the-Marsh was the village’s human doctor. But after his wise old parrot ‘Polynesia’ teaches him how to talk to the animals, he soon becomes the most celebrated veterinary doctor in England.

As word of his skills spreads across the world, he receives many messages asking for his help. So Dr Dolittle buys a leaky old ship and, together with his trusty pet crew of Jip the dog, Chee-Chee the monkey, Dab-Dab the Duck and permanently hungry Gub-Gub the pig, he sets forth on a mission to heal illness, to right wrongs and to gain a greater understanding of the animal kingdom.
