50 things to do before you're 11 ¾
There are lots of great places in the Peak District where you can tick off some of the 50 things list. Here are some popular spots in the White Peak where you can bring the family for summer adventures.
Hunt for fossils in Dovedale - over a hundred steps lead to Lovers' Leap high above the river Dove. The steps contain thousands of fossils and are great to spot with children.
Play pooh sticks in Ilam Park - a large stone bridge crosses the river Manifold near the church in Ilam Park. Whatever the season or weather, it is an ideal spot to play pooh sticks on the clear waters. You may even spot a dipper, trout or ducks while you are there!
Go on a really long bike ride in the Manifold valley - the former railway track along the Manifold valley offers a traffic free route that is perfect for a family bike ride. Listen out for owls and buzzards as you cycle along the peaceful wooded valley.
Explore inside a cave in Dovedale - the huge caves known as Doveholes are ideal for a peek inside a cave, not far off the main footpath in Dovedale.
Make a daisy chain in Ilam Park - bring a picnic, take in the views and have a family daisy chain competition!
- Climb a huge hill in the White Peak - family favourites are Thorpe Cloud by the stepping stones, Bunster hill overloking Ilam village, and Ecton hill above the former copper mine.
